From LEAP to PARCC Testing

Posted: Updated:

So far, the Vermilion Parish School System has invested over one million dollars in preparation for changes in standardized testing. By the start of next school year, LEAP testing will no longer take place.

The state will begin using what's called PARCC testing or Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. Implementing that system also means the end of testing on paper, that's because the PARCC test is an online test.

According to Vermilion Parish Schools Coordinating Supervisor of Educational Technology, Marcil Seals,Ph.d., the shift from a paper based test to an online based test doesn't come cheap. Seals explain the district is in the process of purchasing hardware, updating the wireless network, and replacing computers in order to be ready for the 2014-2015 school year.

So far they have spent a million and a half dollars on upgrades and will need roughly a million more to complete the upgrades needed.

In order to see how ready districts are for PARCC, pre-testing will take place throughout this school year.
