A Lafayette man has been charged with attempted first degree murder after police say he struck a vehicle in a bank deposit lane and robbed a woman at gunpoint.

39-year-old Marcus Sam is believe to have been responsible for the incident that took place in the 3100 block of Louisiana Avenue on Sunday.

Police say the victim drove and parked at a nearby parking lot, at which time Sam approached her vehicle and began attempting to break her driver's side window. After several unsuccessful attempts to break the windows on the vehicle, Sam fired a single shot from a handgun through the window. Sam then reached into the vehicle and stole a deposit bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
