The town of Erath has a new mayor, who's no stranger to politics. As we've reported, on September 1 the mayor of Erath George Dupuis passed away, after losing his battle with cancer. During a special meeting early Monday morning Alderman Billy Cormier was appointed mayor.

Cormier has been an Alderman in Erath for the past 20 years and says he'll never forget what mayor Dupuis did for Erath. Cormier says the passing of Dupuis has been hard on whole community because everyone respected him so much.

Dupuis was a great friend and no one including himself can ever fill his shoes. Cormier has resigned as Alderman and will hold his title as mayor until a special election on April 5, 2014. If there is no run-off, the winner of that special election will be sworn in immediately. What to do about the vacant Alderman seat will be discussed at a later date.
