In Henderson the workplace feels like second home

Posted: Updated:

"I'm 77 years old and almost 77 and a half," says Mae Taylor a waitress at Pat's Fisherman's Wharf in Henderson. Her workplace has come to be her second home. "They say Mae the food is good, but you made it much better by serving it to us. You're the bomb. You're the best," says Mae.

Mae believes she found her calling. That's why she's making no plans to retire. "I'm a people person. I love to talk. Of course, I'm a Cajun person. Sometimes they don't quite understand what I'm saying, but who cares. I'm going to talk anyway."

Nancy Torkowski has 33 years in at Pat's. Nancy works alongside Mae. "Why go anywhere else; besides I'm too old to change my spots (laugh)," says Torkowski. Nancy has worked with Mae for many years; back and forth into the kitchen. A kind of kindred spirit that mixes well on the dining room floor and off.

"We're partners from way back I love her to death she's awesome to work with but don't get her mad because she is very sassy," explains Torkowski.

"I started with them and I never left. And I'm not planning on leaving," adds Taylor.
