Hearing for convicted killer delayed again

OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The new trial motion and sentencing hearing for convicted killer Warren Gautreaux has again been rescheduled, this time for Oct. 4.

The Daily World reports court records show the new date was set Aug. 19. When Gautreaux was convicted May 30, he was originally scheduled for sentencing Aug. 1, but that was delayed to Sept. 5.

A jury found Gautreaux guilty of killing Youric and Mary Courville, an elderly couple, after entering their Eunice home in January 2006 in an apparent burglary attempt. Gautreaux was long considered a suspect, but police needed several years of investigation before they finally arrested him in November 2011.

Though Gautreaux was charged with, and eventually convicted of, two counts of first-degree murder, he does not face the death penalty.
