A Texas man has been arrested during a traffic on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge after police found more than 690 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

State Troopers stopped a 2012 Dodge van Monday traveling east on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation. Troopers obtained permission to search the vehicle and recovered 691.6 pounds of marijuana.

38-year-old Pedro Matamoros of Brownsville, TX, was placed under arrest for improper lane use and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.

Police say the marijuana was destined for somewhere in Louisiana. The narcotics had an estimated street value of over $1 million.
