'Operation Progress' commences in Iberia Parish

Posted: Updated:

Janet Faulk-Gonzales, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce, says the parish has made sort of a chore list of projects the community needs to get done.

"By creating this document we as a community can help ourselves to stay on track," says Faulk-Gonzales.

Faulk-Gonzales is referring to members of the parish, like New Iberia Mayor Hilda Curry, who signed a pledge on Tuesday morning to stick to the plan The Chamber of Commerce has dubbed operation progress. For an indefinite amount of time she says those who committed will review their progress (or lack of progress) twice a year.

"If we haven't then we'll see how we can change our strategies to make sure we're accomplishing the big projects to help move Iberia forward," says Gonzales.

But Mike Armentor, chairman of The Chamber board, says accomplishing the parish's goals will take more than just those who formally committed on Tuesday.

"Neighborhoods, social groups, church organizations each of us can play a part in doing good things for our community," says Armentor.
