Officials at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette are in the process of completing a few major upgrades on campus. In addition to making some upgrades to the dorm rooms on campus, officials will add a bike lane to make the campus a more bike friendly environment.

Cyclist can expect a much smoother commute from surrounding neighborhoods into the university. Several grants have been received to fund the addition of bike lanes throughout campus and bike riders are more than happy to hear about the news.

Cyclist and student Aaron Crain, says that he thinks it would be a lot safer for cyclist on the roads, making it easier to get around campus and it would be a lot safer for pedestrians.

Pedestrian safety was a concern because they were forced to share paths with bicycle riders.

Director of Architecture and design Thomas Sammons said, "It is a concern to the university that our students bed to have a safe way to get to school and get to class."

That will consist of bike lanes along St. Mary Boulevard, similar to the ones you see on Johnson Street. This is only a small part in the universities plan to make a better pedestrian and bike friendly environment for students and faculty.
