SLCC faculty concerns

Posted: Updated:

Some faculty members at South Louisiana Community College are raising concerns over recent changes.

A two page letter was sent to News's 10 and signed, concerned SLCC faculty. Some of their concerns addressed in that letter include changes to some faculty contracts from 12 months to nine months resulting in lower pay. They also state their concern over several program closures. These employees write they fear losing their job if they address these issues to the administration, but we were assured that's not the case.

According to SLCC Chancellor Natalie Harder she wants to find a solution to all of their issues and address all of their challenges. But in no way would there be retribution if they came to her or anyone in an administrative position.

Chancellor Harder goes on to say she respects and appreciates all the work that the faculty do but in moving forward from this, everyone has to do it as a team. Many of the concerns raised are a result of double digital budget cuts and years of decreased enrollment.
