Search efforts continue for missing Danielle Wright

Posted: Updated:

For the past six weeks a Lafayette business man has been relentless trying to do anything he can to find his daughter who is still missing at sea. But there might be new hope.

Ricky Wright's daughter, Danielle, a UL Lafayette student went on a trip of a life time. But it turned into a nightmare after the boat she along with six other people were on, vanished after leaving New Zealand back in late May.

The vessel known as the Nina lost communication with land a few days after it set sail in the South Pacific. After an intensive search by officials, efforts were canceled three weeks ago. But Ricky Wright is not letting that diminish the hope he will find his daughter.

Wright is enlisting the help of Texas Equusearch who participated in search efforts when another UL student, Mickey Shunick, disappeared. He says Thursday the organization will take off and fly over the area the stranded Nina could be.

"Probably an 80 percent chance they're still floating out there. You can go online and read a story about four people who were on a sailboat for 119 days in the Tasman Sea around this time of year. So we believe our families are somewhere still afloat." said Wright.

Wright remains optimistic for the sole fact that no evidence has been found that would suggest the Nina sank. He will keep raising money to keep search efforts going until Danielle is brought home.
