Habitat for Humanity revitalization work continues

Posted: Updated:

Next week Lafayette Consolidated Government will vote on an ordinance allowing them to transfer funds and a piece of property over to Habitat for Humanity. That transfer would give habitat two residential lots on South Orange Street, plus $160,000.

Both allocations are through LCG. It's part of an affordable housing project. That's why Habitat is the perfect agency. If approved, the transfer would allow Habitat to make good on their revitalization commitment.

According to Melinda Taylor, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity says Habitat made a commitment a couple of years ago to do neighborhood revitalization in The McComb-Veazey area. Taylor says so far she thinks they are excited about the work being done.

If everything goes accordingly, construction on the two South Orange Street homes could begin in just a few months.
