Father needs help searching for missing crew at sea

Posted: Updated:

The father of the UL Lafayette student missing at sea is asking for help paying for the cost of searching for the crew. Danielle Wright is one of seven aboard a yacht sailing from New Zealand to Australia. New Zealand authorities conducted a search - but that has come to an end.

Ricky Wright is certain his daughter is alive and merely lost at sea. Danielle Wright left for the trip aboard a yacht named the "Nina." Danielle left May 28. "We expected them in two weeks.  The coast guard in New Zealand said it could have been 3 weeks on that route that they took," says Wright.

Wright says the search involved more than 700,000 square miles. The only contact - an undeliverable text message and satellite phone call.  It's from that information this father finds reassurance. "They survived 25 foot wave storms. They survived 60 mph wind storm and they had another probably 20 ft wave storm.  And those storms took place within a week."

Wright explains that the New Zealand search may have ended - but not his. The family has teamed-up with the search crew Texas Equusearch.  The same team that looked for Natalie Holloway who vanished on a trip to Aruba. Plus, Mickey Schunick in Lafayette.

Wright explains that the family is teaming with Texas EquuSearch to continue looking for S/V Nina and crew. "We still believe they are on the water and looking for us to help them!"
