In the wake of Jeanerette Mayor Tim deClouet's death Monday morning, Mayor pro tem April Foulcard is in charge of his responsibilities. But for how long?
According to Secretary of State Tom Schedler, the local governing body in Jeanerette has until July 22 to call a special election and make an appointment to fill the mayor's seat until the next primary election in October or run-off election in November to avoid intervention from Governor Bobby Jindal.
But Foulcard told KLFY the city plans to hold the special election before July 22. Until then she says they will continue on Mayor deClouet's pathway for the city.
