Members of the LGBT community were out for an event Sunday, the first of it's kind here in Lafayette.
The gay rights group, Acadiana Outspoken Alliance, put on the first ever Pride in the Park celebration at Girard Park. The idea was to bring together both the LGBT community and Lafayette community in a family friendly environment, for a day of family fun.
The event started with a ceremonious raising of the rainbow flag marking the first time it would fly in a publicly owned area. Organizers say Pride in the Park was also a celebration of the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.
