Iberia Parish HR Director Terminated

Posted: Updated:

Iberia Parish President Errol Romo Romero terminated the director of human resources, Mike Gillard, following accusations he was hiding resumes for high-level administrative positions.

According to a press release from Romero, Gillard was withholding nearly 80 resumes for the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer, which The Parish has been without since last year. He says some of the resumes date back to when Gillard first became Human Resources Director.

Also, Romero says he was informed on Thursday afternoon that "a certain council member may have instructed Gillard not to turn over the resumes to the administration."

He says a "full inquiry" is being made into the alleged council member and "the proper authorities" will be alerted.

But some council members, including Troy Comeaux (Dist. 5), are a bit skeptical of Gillard withholding the resumes.

"I find it hard to believe that Mr. Gillard or anyone would be that reckless in that type of position and actually have applications and not turn them over to anyone. If someone was trying to hide that information why would they hide it in their desk?" says Comeaux.

He also says this isn't the first time paperwork has gone missing in the Romero Administration.

"I'm very concerned as well as other parish council members. We have been from the start. We've had documents that have been missing, we have mysterious documents that appear," says Comeaux.

Gillard says he has "no comment right now," but another member of the Parish Council did speak to him.

"He just said we needed to secure his computer and let the DA (District Attorney) know his computer needed to be secured. So, that's what we did," says Roger Duncan (Dist. 10).
