Some major changes are in the works for Abbeville General Hospital (AGH) that will help better serve Vermilion Parish residents for generations to come. One of the biggest changes will be their new renovated and expanded emergency room. Currently their ER has seven beds.
Once it is renovated it will be expanded to twelve beds with the availability to hold up to eighteen. Over the past year AGH opened up a sleep and cancer center, providing vital care to patients in their own back yard.
Besides the ER, rural health clinics will also be expanded beyond their Abbeville and Maurice locations. Chief Nursing Officer Denise Noel says AGH will open a rural health clinic in Erath that will provide that area with primary health care needs. Phase one of the ER should be open to the public in about six months with all renovations completed within a year.
