DONALDSONVILLE, La. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed and several injured in an explosion at a Louisiana chemical plant, only miles from where another blast killed two plant workers a day ago.
Louisiana State Police Capt. Doug Cain said one person was taken by helicopter to a local hospital and several others were being treated for injuries following Friday evening's explosion at a CF Industries facilities in Donaldsonville.
Cain said the local sheriff told state police that there had been one death.
Cain said a fire sparked by the explosion was quickly extinguished.
CF Industries' website says the plant can produce roughly 5 million tons of nitrogen for agricultural and industrial uses annually.
On Thursday, an explosion at chemical plant in Geismar owned by Williams Companies Inc. killed two workers and injured dozens of others.
