The annual re-vegetation project occurred recently between the constructed terraces in little Vermilion Bay in Vermilion Parish.
Since 1994 the Vermilion Soil and Water Conservation District with participating partners have held re-vegetation projects with the intent of increasing the area's stability, lessen erosion, create habitat for natural wildlife, and provide a seed source for natural regeneration.
This year's project included the planting of 6,250 plugs of California bulrush for a project total of 18,750 linear feet.
The Vermilion Soil and Water Conservation District is already planning next years 20th annual project in 2014 for south of White Lake in Vermilion Parish.
To learn more about how to participate you can call Mitzi Dohrman at the VSWC district office at 893-5664 extension 3.
