In recognition of National Women Build Week, more than 10,000 women are expected to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country.
This weekend, Lafayette Women Build participants will be working on two homes in the McComb Veazey neighborhood, where Lafayette Habitat is engaged in a long-term neighborhood revitalization initiative. Two homes have already been completed at the corner of 12th St. and S. Sterling, and construction is underway on the next four homes located on the 200 block of Marne St.
On Friday and Saturday, construction begins at 201 and 203 Marne St. from 9:30 a.m. till 3:30 p.m.
Directions to the site: Drive on Johnston towards Evangeline Thruway. Continue on Louisiana Avenue. Turn right onto E. Simcoe St., and then take the second left on Marne St. Your destination will be on the left.
National Women Build Week is from May 4-12. Now in its sixth year, the week challenges women to devote at least one day to help build affordable housing in their local communities. Lowe's, the underwriter of Habitat's Women Build program donated more than $1.75 million to 300 Habitat affiliates across the United States during National Women Build Week.
