The Lafayette Consolidated Council is expected to consider an introductory ordinance amending its red light camera contract to split costs and rewards pursuing past due tickets with contractor Redflex.
Over the past several months, the council and administration have debated on whether motorists who haven't paid their red light camera citations should go to court.
Under the current Redflex contract, Lafayette would pay the entire cost of taking motorists to court to recover the fines and late fees. Redflex would not be responsible for paying any of the court costs. In the proposal set to be introduced today, Redflex agrees to pay 40-percent of legal costs of pursuing the overdue fines.
