NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - An ongoing battle between Iberia Parish President Errol Romero and the Parish Council over hiring and budgetary decisions has spilled over into federal court.

Romero had hired former news reporter Holly Leleux-Thubron as a maintenance supervisor after the council rejected his request to create a new parish government position for communications director.

The council cut funding for the position in September.

Recently, Leleux-Thubron sued the parish government and council for what the lawsuit alleges was termination without just cause. Her lawsuit seeks damage for lost wages, mental anguish and embarrassment, among other things.

The Advocate reports council Chairman Roger Duncan declined comment on the lawsuit.
