One local family is reaching out to those affected by the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary. It's been a little over five months since that tragedy occurred, killing 26 people, mostly under the age of 7.

Since that day the entire country has rallied around that community and one way Julie Romero from Kaplan is helping out is through her company, Hugs from Heaven.

Romero said a couple days after the tragedy, she had a thought that she needed to send dolls to Connecticut. So this weekend she is planning a trip to Newtown to distribute her Jesus and Mary dolls to those affected by the shootings.

Julie has raised almost $10,000 making those donations possible. She will hand out her Jesus and Mary dolls not only to the victims' families but to others in that community.

If you would like to purchase one of her dolls you can visit the following stores: Crossroads Catholic Book Store in Lafayette, The Rosary House in New Iberia , Susan's on Court in Ville Platte, Phil's in Abbeville, Kaplan Flower Market in Kaplan.
