Newsstand tab to make Orleans paper daily again

Posted: Updated:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Months after cutting its print edition to three days a week, The Times-Picayune of New Orleans has announced plans for a three-day-a-week tabloid to be available on days when the full paper isn't printed.

In an announcement Tuesday on the paper's website, nola.com, Editor Jim Amoss says the new publication will be called TPStreet. It will be published on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and priced at 75 cents starting in the summer. It will not be home-delivered but will be sold at stores and in newspaper vending boxes.

Last year's publishing cutback sparked protests and prompted The Advocate of Baton Rouge to offer daily news coverage and subscriptions in New Orleans. New Orleans businessman John Georges expects to close on his purchase of The Advocate by June 1.
