Fourth Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show set for April 19-21, 2013

This weekend the Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show will kick off its fourth annual event in Franklin.

And this year's show promises to be bigger and better than ever, organizers Roger Stouff and Gary Blum say.

Though a rare sight in the St. Mary Parish area, there are a few such vessels in the hands of proud owners and builders.

In addition, participants towed their boats from across Louisiana as well as Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Alabama to join what's become known as a down-home, laid-back venue for wooden boat owners and enthusiasts far and wide.

Entries have ranged from a seven-foot rowing dingy to thirty-foot motor yachts and all sizes in between.

These boats range from locally made Louisiana craft to manufactured brands such as Garwood, Thompson and Lyman of days gone by. Builders of designs from across the United States also bring their handiwork to the BTWBS.

"It just gets better every year," Stouff said. "The word has spread like wildfire. Our participants appreciate the easy-going atmosphere of the show, the venue on Parc sur la Teche and the charms of Franklin and its people."

The show will be located at the end of Teche Drive stretching from Adams Street toward the festival. Boats will be on display both on the shore and in Bayou Teche .

Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, the show continues through Sunday afternoon after the last participants have headed out for home.

There is no entry fee for participants, and all wooden vessels are welcome. For more information, visit or email
