The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved St. Landry Parish's future plans for Creswell Elementary.
BESE unanimously voted Wednesday afternoon to allow St. Landry Parish to convert the Creswell Elementary school building into a virtual learning academy for seventh through twelve graders and an accelerated recovery program for fifth grade students.
Lottie P. Beebe, District three board member on BESE, says members thought the plan approved by the St. Landry Parish School Board was in the best interest of students.
Creswell has been determined by BESE as an academically unacceptable school for over four years. The St. Landry School Board voted March to close the school and transfer the students to Park Vista Elementary.
