Bank Robbery Prompts School Lockdowns

Lafayette police are looking for an armed suspect who robbed a Lafayette bank Monday morning.

The robbery took place at the American Bank and Trust Company in the 2900 block of Moss Street. Bank employees say the suspect entered the bank wearing a mask and armed with a handgun.

Police say the suspect fired his weapon one time, stole an undisclosed amount of cash, and stole an employee's vehicle.

Acadian Middle, Evangeline Elementary, JW Faulk, and Northside were placed on lockdown  for about 45 minutes Monday afternoon after gunfire was reported.

Police say shortly after 1 p.m., Ossun Elementary was placed on lockdown as the burglary suspect was believed to be seen in the area.

Authorities are searching for a suspect described as a white male 5'5'' or 5'7'' tall. If you have any information that may help police in their investigation call crime stoppers 232-TIPS.
