Friday night is a busy day for restaurants and it's the perfect opportunity for fundraising, which is exactly why the owner of Bailey's and Ema's Cafe is dedicating all proceeds toward the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
For one whole business day, Bailey's and Ema's Cafe off Johnston Street is whipping up tasty meals for a good cause. 100% of Friday's sales go towards the society.
"It's not just a percentage of sales, every dollar that is spent today on breakfast, lunch, dinner, 100% is donated to that charitable organization," said Stuart Gonsuron, the Project Manager of Bailey's.
And the fundraiser is also part of the "Man and Woman of the Year" nominations. Winners are chosen by the dollar amount raised. At least that's the goal for owner, Ema Haq, a well-known philanthropist and one of the 10 nominees for the LLS's "Man and Woman of the Year." His goal is to raise $10,000, which will sponsor two children battling blood disease.
"It helps them off-set the costs of anything from having to travel back and forth for treatments to living expenses, hotel accommodations for the family and anything that that money can go towards," said Gonsuron.
And while the other nominees have their own fundraising ideas, doing it the way Haq knows best, was a no-brainer.
"When he was approached about being a nominee, it just made sense to him," said Gonsuron.
And for those on board, they're hoping to raise the $10,000 by Thursday, April 18th.
