St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor has filed a petition to have School Board member Quincy Richard removed from his seat. The move comes after an investigation of Richard's eligibility to hold office.
In 2004, Richard was involved in a grade for cash scandal at Southern University. Richard pleaded guilty to filing or maintaining false public records.
Louisiana law prohibits convicted felons from running for public office for 15 years after the end of their original sentence unless they receive a governor's pardon. Taylor's petition argues Richard never received a pardon from the governor, therefore making him ineligible to hold his seat on the school board.
Richard also faces legal trouble after he was charged with conspiracy to extort money in exchange for votes for a new school superintendent.
