BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu's campaign says the Democrat incumbent has raised $1.2 million in the latest fundraising cycle and has nearly $3.5 million in her campaign account.
The fundraising announcement Thursday puts the three-term senator from New Orleans ahead of her only declared Republican challenger, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy of Baton Rouge, in raising money so far.
Cassidy announced earlier this month that he had raised $500,000 for the same fundraising period that ended March 31, bringing his campaign account to $2.4 million.
With the election more than 18 months away, there is much more time for fundraising. The election is set for November 2014.
Landrieu's campaign says the senator has nearly twice as much in her campaign account as she did at this point during her last re-election bid.
