Louisiana State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting north of the Evangeline/ St. Landry Parish line.
Trooper Stephen Hammons says 22-year-old Byron Simon of Ville Platte has been arrested after he attempted to disarm a St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Deputy.
Hammons says the deputy responded to a two vehicle crash on I-49 near mile marker 40.
Hammons says when the deputy arrived at the scene, Simon, who was not wearing any clothes, began running towards him.
Simon entered the deputy's vehicle and a struggle began. Once a state trooper arrived on the scene, he fired his weapon when he saw the two in a struggle. Hammons says the man continued to resist arrest and that's when the trooper fired his taser hitting Simon.
Simon was then taken into custody and was charged with attempted disarming of a peace officer, simple battery, obscenity, simple burglary of an emergency vehicle, battery on a police officer and four counts of resisting a police officer.
No one was injured by the gunfire. The case remains under investigation.
