After July 1st, the LSU Health System will no longer operate the University Medical Center, leaving approximately 770 workers subject to layoffs at the end of June. Those workers include clinical, administrative, social, and clerical workers, all who, if not rehired at UMC, will become unemployed.
But UMC, in partnership with the Louisiana Economic Development Authority, has organized a job fair, for those losing their positions to seek new employment opportunities, to leave less people unemployed.
"I also want to mention that not only are we having vendors from around the community but we are also having what we are calling resource vendors, banks, mortgage companies to assist our employees with some of their financial needs that may come because of this partnership and the possible layoffs" Says Jennifer Simms, UMC Human Resources Director.
The job fair will include new employment opportunities as well as vendors to assist in financial advice. It will be held all day Thursday and is open only to current UMC employees.
