Opelousas Shooting Leaves One in Critical Condition

Opelousas Police are investigating a shooting which occurred in the 1100 block of S. Court street, 1 victim 1 in custody.

At 4:46pm today officers received a call from a female resident of 1123 S Court St indicating that her estranged husband identified as Damian Landry shot a friend who was helping her move. She also indicated that she and Landry have been separated for almost three (3) years.

Officers arrived on scene to find the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was then transferred to Opelousas General Hospital by ambulance where he is listed as critical but stable. He is being prepped to be transferred out to Lourdes, in Lafayette.

At 5:56pm patrol officers located Landry and turned him over to investigators. Landry indicated he knew absolutely nothing about a shooting.

 Damian Landry 32 of 803 Berneice street is presently in the Opelousas city jail charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He will go before a magistrate in the morning.
