Crowley Man Dead Following Deputy Involved Shooting

Early this morning, Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon requested Detectives with Louisiana State Police investigate a shooting on Leger Road south of the city limits of Crowley involving two of his deputies.

The initial investigation indicates that at about 3:00 a.m. two Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence in the 6100 block of Leger Road.

When Deputies arrived at the scene they entered the house and 41-year-old James A. Trahan of Crowley, armed himself with a shotgun.  Trahan fired at the Deputies striking one of them in the leg.  The Deputies returned fire fatally wounding Trahan.

The Deputy who was shot has been transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.  He is currently recovering in the hospital.

This case remains under investigation.
