For the past few weeks, there's been a string of home burglaries around Vermilion Parish. On Monday, another home was broken into, bringing the total to eight in just six weeks.
The burglaries have residents on high alert and the sheriff's office busy tracking down leads. But what's similar about them all is they've all occurred in broad daylight, including the Monday afternoon break-in.
The latest burglary victim lives off Albert Road north of Erath. She says she was gone no longer than an hour and when she came back, things were not the way she left them. She said it wasn't clear a break-in occurred until she stepped inside. A rocking chair was moved across the living room and lights were turned on, when they were off before she left.
The woman did not want to speak or appear on camera, out of fear it might disrupt the investigation. But she did say, jewelry and personal information was stolen—many irreplaceable items.
Other residents also declined to speak on camera, but a few said they are installing surveillance cameras around their homes, hoping this won't happen again.
So far, no arrests have been made. The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office was unavailable for comment Thursday.
