DOTD Announces Lane Closure on U.S. 90 for Shoulder Paving

Posted:

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that beginning Thursday, April 4, U.S. 90 will be reduced to one lane in the eastbound direction to allow crews to pave the road shoulders.

The lane closure will take place between the Billeaud Overpass, in Broussard, and Wall Road, in Youngsville, weather permitting.

This lane closure will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and is estimated to last two weeks. All lanes will be opened at night and on weekends.

Permit loads are restricted to 16 feet in width, and emergency vehicles will have access to the area. No detour is necessary for this work.

The work being performed during this closure is related to the $4.9 million project to install j-turns on U.S. 90 between the Billeaud Overpass and Wall Road. The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left-turn and through movements from side roads and driveways into crossovers. All vehicles will be required to turn right and then U-turn at a median opening down the road.

Approximately 40,000 drivers a day travel on this portion of U.S. 90. Work on this 3.5-mile project began in November 2012 and should be completed by fall 2013.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life.
