Police have made an arrest in connection with a string of shootings in Ville Platte. 29 year old Reokenski Thomas, 21 year old Jared Freeman and 33 year old Hilton Wilson have been arrested and charged with assault by drive by shooting.
Officials responded to two shootings in the area of East Wilson street over the weekend, one on Good Friday and the other on Easter Sunday.
Officials say witnesses were able to identify the suspects that were responsible for shots being fired from a vehicle. The investigation led to the arrests of Thomas, Freeman, and Wilson. They all have been booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on a $50,000 bond.
A string of shootings in Ville Platte has one family scared to be anywhere near their home. The victims, who want to keep their identity out of the public, said on Good Friday, a vehicle passed in front of their home. They then heard gunshots.
"I came back home Friday and all I heard was gunshots, and that's all I could do was run and hide," said one victim.
They said they called police and made a report; even identified a suspect.
"One of the dude's faces I recognized and told them everything. It didn't do no good. They came back shooting."
On Easter, they said, the suspects returned and fired on their home once again.
"They started shooting at my car, with me in the car. They I ran in the home and they kept shooting. They were walking and shooting."
In total, KLFY counted five bullet holes in their home. One rear view mirror on a car, and the back wind shield of a truck were also shot. They family said their two children, under the age of ten, were also present during the shootings.
"When I heard the gunshots, I took them and ran into my room. But it didn't do any good to be in the room, because the bullets were flying past us, so I had to put them in the closet," said their mother.
The victims said they called police again on Sunday and an officer drove by. The victims allege that when the office pulled up, suspects were still in the area shooting. However, no arrests were made. Chief Neal Lartigue, Ville Platte Police Department, said "We are investigating two incidents and we will be issuing warrants for arrest."
The victims said they hope an arrest is made soon, before the situation turns deadly.
"It's not safe for my kids to be home. It's not safe for us to be home. They (the suspects) don't care. They will just come by and shoot."
