State police have identified the pedestrian killed in a traffic crash as 28-year-old Jerome Woodley of Opelousas.
Troopers said 59-year-old Guilliam Leger of Opelousas was driving a car south on I-49 service early Sunday morning when he struck a pedestrian wearing dark clothing that was walking south in the lane of travel.
Woodley was struck from behind by Leger's vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish coroner.
The crash remains under investigation.
This morning, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on I-49 service road at Roxanne Road north of Sunset.
According to investigating Troopers, at 6:12 a.m., 59-year-old Guilliam Leger of Opelousas, was driving a 1990 Dodge passenger car south on I-49 service road approaching Roxanne Road. A pedestrian wearing dark clothing was walking south in the lane of travel.
For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was struck from behind by Leger's vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Leger, who was restrained, was not injured in the crash.
It is unknown if the pedestrian was impaired; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
The name of the pedestrian will be released once next-of-kin can be notified.
