Officials at the Lafayette Parish Jail are looking into becoming part of a committee that would track issues like overcrowding, and come up ways to resolve them. Sheriff Mike Neustrom met with police officials, judges, lawyers, and some school officials Tuesday to weigh the merits of starting a local criminal justice coordinating committee. The committee's comments would factor into the center's plans for future growth. Neustrom says, although overcrowding is not an issue at the moment, it has been before, and having the committee would help relieve that issue. He feels confident that the committee will move forward.
