A new CNN ORC International poll indicates a small majority of Americans back same sex marriages. The polls show that 53% believe that marriages between gay or lesbian couples should be legally recognized while 44% do not support same-sex marriage.
The survey found more women than men support same-sex marriages and younger Americans are twice as likely as senior citizens to back it.
There also appear to be partisan divides with 55% of Democrats supporting same-sex marriages compared to about 25% of Republicans.
