Arrest Made in Hilda Street Murder - Acadiana's Multi-Media News Station

On March 16, 2013, Lafayette Police arrested Marquis Simmons (20) of Lafayette on an arrest warrant for 2^nd Degree Murder.  Simmons is alleged to have shot and killed the victim on Hilda Street.  The investigation remains ongoing.

On March 15, 2013, at approximately 5:30 pm, Lafayette Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Hilda Street regarding a shooting.

The victim, a male under the age of 17, was standing in a yard when the suspect approached him. According to witnesses, the victim attempted to flee the scene on foot when the suspect shot the victim one time.

The suspect fled the scene following the shooting and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died. 

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
