The city of Broussard is responding to Lafayette City Parish President Joey Durel's comments about terminating fire services to the city.
Currently both cities are in the middle of two lawsuits. One is over allegations that Lafayette unreasonably annexed land into its city limits and the other is over a water bill Lafayette sent to Broussard for water that Broussard used but did not pay for.
Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel says drop the suit or lose the services. Thursday the attorney who represents Broussard, Gerald Delaunay, fired back.
Delaunay says Mr. Durel's talk of lawsuits being the reason for his ludicrous acts is pure political deception.
Broussard has repeatedly urged Lafayette to put the interests of the citizens of Lafayette parish ahead of politics, and to agree to sit down with a neutral mediator to work out our differences.
Mr. Durel has refused each request.
