Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a three vehicle crash on LA Highway 95 north of Interstate 10 which claimed the life of a Eunice man.
According to investigating Troopers, on March 10, 2013, shortly before 7:30 p.m., 28-year-old Gerardo Robles of Church Point was driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck south on LA Highway 95. Robles was traveling behind a 2006 Toyota SUV driven by 58-year-old Mary Dupuis of Scott. For reasons still under investigation, Robles' vehicle struck Dupuis' vehicle from behind. After the initial impact, Robles' vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 1998 Lexus passenger car, driven by 63-year-old George Fisher of Eunice, head-on.
Fisher died at the scene as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead by the Acadia Parish Coroner. One of the passengers in Fisher's, 61-year-old Calvin Cheeks of Church Point, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The other passenger in Fisher's vehicle, 70-year-old Scottie Fisher of Eunice, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Troopers are working to determine if the occupants in Fisher's vehicle were restrained.
Dupuis and two passengers in her vehicle, 54-year-old Glenn Dupuis and 39-year-old Kevin Bearb both of Scott, were properly restrained and were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Robles, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. A passenger in his vehicle, 48-year-old Santos Zavala of Lafayette, was also unrestrained and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Troopers suspect Robles was impaired and placed him under arrest for vehicular homicide, 6 counts of vehicular negligent injury, no seat belt, no driver's license and reckless operation. Once released from the hospital, Robles will be booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
This crash remains under investigation.
