State officials wants a court of appeals to overturn a federal judge's order that says Louisiana owes nearly a quarter of a billion dollars for medicaid overpayments that occurred from 1996 to 2007.
Officials with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals say the centers for medicare and medicaid services should have forgiven the debt of 239.5 million dollars because they repaid the money a year ago.
Now the state is asking for the payment back, with interest.
Last month, chief US Judge Brian Jackson agreed with federal attorney's that the money should not go back to the state.
