Lafayette Car Fire Damages House

At 1:43 this morning, Lafayette fire personnel responded to a house fire at 503 Harrell Drive. It was initially reported as a vehicle fire under the carport. When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were coming from the roof above the carport.

The structure sustained heavy fire damage to the carport and roof. The interior of the dwelling sustained smoke, heat, and fire damage.

The owner of the vehicle, Nick Hill, stated that he parked his 2012 Ford F150 under the carport. As he exited, he noticed sparks coming from the engine compartment. He entered the dwelling and awakened his roommate. They exited the dwelling without any injuries. 

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the vehicle. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
