The hub city is once again topping the charts, this time in retail sales. According to Lafayette Economic Development Authority 2012 was the best year on record, reaching $5.71 billion dollars in sales.
Local retailers are not only cashing in during this economic boom but they're paying it forward. The owner of Maven Menswear Christina Barbier says her sales are so good that she was able to hire her first full time employee, making her happy that she's able to give back to her community in a small way.
But Barbier luck doesn't end there because she plans to open up a woman's store this April. The month of December was also one of the best Decembers for Lafayette, up 5.2% from December 2011, bringing in almost $600 million dollars in sales.
