LAFAYETTE, LA – Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana has kicked off the 23rd Annual Great Acadiana Running of the Ducks. Businesses started duck sales on February 11th and will complete sales on April 5th. The actual event will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Red Lerille's Health & Racquet Club. It will start at 9:00 a.m. and run through noon, but the ducks will go down the slide at 11:30 a.m. It is free to attend. We will have live music from the Josh Taylor Band, mascots, food and drinks for those that come to the event.
It's the most amazing experience to see over 25,000 rubber ducks slide down into the water and make their way down the pool's lazy river to the finish line. Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana holds The Great Acadiana Running of the Ducks to generate energy, enthusiasm, and financial support for our youth development programs. Individuals from our surrounding communities purchase ducks for $5, so this is one event everyone can be supportive of. They also have larger duck packages that you will receive free ducks with. If you purchase the $25 Six Quack you will get 5 ducks and 6 ducks free, if you get the grand pack you will get 20 ducks and 5 ducks free. Those who adopt a duck are helping a great cause, but also will have the opportunity to win 21 huge prizes. The grand prize is a 2013 Honda Fit from Moss Motors, the other 20 prizes are all worth over $500.
In addition to, our teens recently started a new business. Through their new business "GB Teez", they will be selling T-Shirts for $15 for the Running of the Ducks, which they have designed through a contest of all Club members throughout the 6 Clubs. Every person that buys a shirt will receive a bookmark telling them about the Boys & Girls Clubs and the new T-Shirt screening business.
If you would like to adopt your duck you can do so through the Running of the Ducks page on the website, www.bgcacadiana.com. You could also, call 237-DUCK (3825) or visit any of the participating locations.
