A Comeaux High School student was honored by the Lafayette Consolidated Council, February 5.  Shalli Rae Shello is Comeaux High's first African American Junior RTOC cadet.  Shello is also her units first female Commanding Officer.

In 2010, Shalli joined her schools ROTC program not knowing the choice she made was also making history. Navy science instructor Charles Young is not surprised by Shalli's leadership. "She has a desire to be in the military.  She got the desire to be a commissioned officer in the united states military.  So, she go unlimited potential."

"The responsibility of it, but the it felt like great because you're a leader to so many different students here at Comeaux," adds Shalli. Upon graduation, Shalli plans to attend college and enlist in the Navy. Shalli is proud to say she has learned a lot and is willing to learn more. "Knowing that you are doing something for your school and community it's a great feeling," says Shalli.
