Congressman Charles Boustany will be in Acadiana this week to discuss the new health insurance tax on small businesses.
Boustany, a critical opponent of the new health care law, says the tax on small business owners will raise insurance costs for already struggling small businesses.
According to the hill, the tax is expected to generate around 100 billion dollars over 10 years to help pay for the coverage expansion in the healthcare law. The bulk of which will likely come from private insurance.
Last week, Boustany re-introduced a bill to repeal the tax. Boustany says the health insurance tax will raise the cost of small business health insurance premiums to the tune of $500 per employee.
The event will be held this Wednesday in new Iberia at the greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce. Along with Congressman Boustany, small business owners and other local officials will be in attendance. The event begins at 9:00 AM.
