Baton Rouge Policewoman Punched While Trying to Stop Fight

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police say an 18-year-old man is accused of punching a uniformed policewoman in the face when she tried to break up a fight between him and another man after a Carnival parade in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge police Lt. Don Kelly says Christopher Hensley of Zachary was booked with battery on a police officer after the incident Saturday afternoon.

He says that after the 41-year-old corporal was punched in the face, bystanders held Hensley until other officers could arrest him. The bystanders included an off-duty police officer from north Louisiana.

Kelly says the corporal was released after treatment for facial injuries.

The East Baton Rouge Parish jail's online inmate roster shows that Hensley was held Sunday in lieu of $50,000 bond.

It was not clear whether he had an attorney.
