At 6:16 Monday morning Lafayette Fire Department responded to 300 Madeline Avenue to a structure fire. Firefighters arrived on scene and found the vacant home fully engulfed. The early morning blaze took firefighters over 15 minutes to get under control and the home sustained heavy fire damage.
The home had been vacant for three years but still owned by Stephanie Mercier, who says she had tried to secure the building multiple times to keep individuals out.
Neighbors report people were seen going in and out of the vacant home late at night. Fire investigators determined the fire started in the front bedroom but the cause is still under investigation
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact crime stoppers at 232-TIPS or call their office at 291-8700.
